'1950s French Female Fashion Rendition' is an original drawing by Jorge Ruiz-Martinez. In this drawing, the artist clearly features the strong shoulders and the nipped-in waist silhouette that is iconic of the fashion of the '50s. Martinez works in a pared-down style with a nod to Art Deco fashion images while nevertheless maintaining the characteristics of the era he is representing. Art Deco architecture and graphic design took hold in the United States and Europe during the first part of the 20th century and came to be the iconic style of the metropolis and modernity. While recalling the aesthetic of Art Deco, Ruiz-Martinez's drawings are more stylized and simplified than the detailed and lush fashion images of the Art Deco era.
