Jorge Ruiz-Martinez (American, b. 1963)
'Ava (1940s Art Deco Fashion Rendition)' is an original drawing by the American artist Jorge Ruiz-Martinez. The artist works in an art deco style, imagining graceful figures in historic costume through that stylized lens. Art Deco architecture and graphic design took hold in the United States and Europe during the first part of the 20th century and came to be the iconic style of the metropolis and modernity. Ruiz-Martinez's drawings, though more stylized and simplified, recall the fashion images of Art Deco master Erté who likewise presented single elegant figures in resplendent costume.
