In the 1960s, Sylvia Spicuzza made several watercolor abstractions with biomorphic qualities like the one presented here. While being a playful abstraction, the watercolor also seeps into the paper resembling contemporaneous abstract expressionist works by such artists as Helen Frankenthaler.
