This image of empty broken chairs in a deserted alley is reminiscent of the work of Eugene Atget, who was capturing the streets of Paris over a 30 year period at the beginning of the 20th century. His work was highly prized by the surrealists who thought it encapsulated the goals of their movement. Indeed, Borns' image captures that same emptiness and dreamlike quality of the Parisian streets. The image also resembles some of the work of André Kertész, who likewise took several images of rows of empty chairs in Parisian parks.
