Part of the artist’s ‘Firework Series,’ ‘Grand Finale I’ is a giclée print after the 1997 original, signed by the artist in the lower left. Pointillistic fireworks bloom over the Statue of Liberty in the artist’s depiction of the final moments of a fireworks show. Barnett’s work combines the careful play of light characteristic of the Impressionists with the abstraction of later Expressionists like Kandinsky and Klee; both elements can be found in this piece, from the undulating gray clouds in the background to the juxtaposition of a flowing American flag over a stamp of the Statue of Liberty in the lower right.
