'Ostrich' is an original springstone sculpture signed by the Zimbabwean artist Brian Nehumba. Brian was trained in the Shona stone carving tradition and this is an excellent example of his work, combining abstract and animal forms. The sculpture takes the form of a massive bird, its cornucopia-shaped body perched atop a curving stone as its tail drapes down like a gown and its neck curves backward. Brian plays with the texture of the springstone, bringing the body of the bird to a high and deep polish while leaving parts of the stone perch rough-hewn. springstone 37.5 x 18 x 11 inches 253 lbs signed "Brian Nehumba" along bottom edge on proper right acquired directly from the artist overall good condition with some scattered minor scratches
