"Peach Stoned" is an original painting in mixed media by the Midwestern non-objective artist John Colt. Colt's paintings are often filled with small figures of insects and critters, but this work comes from a series that is more plainly abstract. The image is constructed of fields of color – primarily warm yellows and oranges – divided by subtly curving lines of green and freckles of brown. Indeed, as the title suggests, Colt appears to abstract a peach by taking an extreme close-up view of the fruit. This was a beloved technique for abstraction among artists of the twentieth century, as the curves and colors of fruit remind of the curves and sensuality of the human body.
