'Polichinelle Et Ses Trois Chiens,' or in English 'Pulcinella and His Three Dogs,' is an original color lithograph that is signed by the contemporary artist Claude Weisbuch. This is an excellent example of the artist's interest in the art and literature of the Renaissance. Pulcinella is one of the characters of the commedia dell'arte of the 17th century and became a stock character in Neapolitan puppetry and theater. He was meant to be a symbol of the people, acting as their voice in popular culture, while also satirizing them. Weisbuch's iconic style of sketchy wayfinding lines and muted colors references the drawings of old master artists, but for the contemporary eye. Artwork Size: 30"x22 1/2" Frame Size: 38 3/4"x30 1/4" Edition 25/250 in pencil, lower left Signed in pencil, lower right Framed to conservation standards using archival materials including 100 percent rag matting and Museum Glass to inhibit fading; housed in a gold finish wood moulding.
