Lawrence Sandarama - African (Shona)

Born in Zimbabwe's capital city of Harare in 1976, Lawrence Sandaramu now lives in Chitungwiza, a half hour drive from Harare. Chitungwiza is a poor settlement but the inhabitants are very resourceful and the community now boasts a thriving artist community. In recent years, it has become recognized as Zimbabwe's second largest city. Lawrence Sandaramu is one of the privileged few to be trained at the famous Chapungu Gallery by Squari Chikwanda. Chapungu Gallery is world renown in the Shona art movement and to be trained there is a high recommendation. Through his training and experience, he has developed his technical skills and become a fine artist. His work is imaginative and very well finished. Prefering mainly to create abstract forms, his stone of choice is Springstone, one of the hardest and most difficult stones to carve in Zimbabwe. Lawrence married Kudakwashe Kaneta in 1996 and has two girls, Florence and Felisters.
