Quality of Line: Chagall, Weisbuch, Steinberg

For this exhibition, the David Barnett Gallery will bring together works by three twentieth-century masters: Marc Chagall, Claude Wesisbuch, and Saul Steinberg. Each of these artists approaches the figure with confidence, though with strikingly different sensibilities. Chagall, using bright color and exaggerated form to capture memory, fantasy and spirituality; Weisbuch, looking to the old masters with elegant line and a satirical eye; and Steinberg, capturing humorous and meditative tableaux of the post-war American psyche. Also on view will be new works to the gallery, including paintings Kevin Knopp, Brian Kuether, John Wilde, and Francesco Spicuzza.
